Cabin Crew

Hello,

Thanks for your question.

In terms of promotion, I’m assuming you mean the ability to progress within the Cabin Crew role itself (please feel free to ask another question if that’s not the case).

Cabin Crew have the opportunity to progress to Inflight Lead (IFL) and Inflight Manager (IFM).

Inflight Leads are second in charge on long haul flights. They take charge of the World Travelller and World Traveller Plus Cabins on long haul flights (and a Club World cabin on the A380); and they also take our short haul aircraft out in charge and work in the Club Europe cabin.

Inflight Managers take long haul and short haul aircraft out in charge and work in the Club World cabin on long haul and the Club Europe cabin on short haul.

Cabin Crew can also complete additional qualifications to become a specialist in both the Club World and First cabins on our long haul aircraft.

Of course, working at British Airways also means there is a lot of opportunity to progress and develop within the company. Cabin Crew can do secondments in other areas of the business, work within the training department or Cabin Crew management team, or even leave the Cabin Crew role entirely for another role within the business. It’s up to you!

As for contracts, it would depend on the Cabin Crew fleet you decide to join. At Heathrow, everyone starts on a permanent, full-time contract, but crew have the opportunity - dependent on our operational availability - to go part-time (there are various part-time contracts).

I hope that answers your question. Do feel free to answer a follow up question if there is something else you’d like to know. 😊

Thanks,

Dan

Line Trainer

Hello,

What a fantastic question you have asked! There are excellent opportunities for progression within British Airways, and I can personally speak to that. I started my career as a Cabin Crew member and, over time, worked my way up to the role of Inflight Lead (IFL) and eventually hope to progress into the Inflight Manager (IFM) role. In my current position I have the responsibility being the onboard manager on short-haul flights as well as leading teams on long-haul flights working in our World Traveller and World Traveller Plus cabins. It's a role that offers a lot of responsibility and the chance to lead, coach and develop teams in a fast-paced environment. Alongside my leadership role in the skies I have had the privilege of becoming a Line Trainer, which allowed me to take on a more instructional role, helping to train and support new crew members and ensure they have the right skills to succeed. The progression from Cabin Crew to Inflight Lead and Line Trainer has been incredibly rewarding for me. It has allowed me to grow professionally, build leadership skills, and contribute to the development of others. It’s a role that offers both personal growth and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within the team.

There are also various other paths you can take if you're interested in different aspects of the business, like secondments into other departments, or even moving into management or training positions full-time. British Airways provides a variety of opportunities for those who want to grow within the company and explore new challenges.

Regarding contracts, as Dan mentioned, when you join as a Cabin Crew member at Heathrow, you start with a permanent full-time contract, with the potential to move to part-time if the operational requirements allow for it.

I hope this helps provide some insight into the progression opportunities at BA, and if you have any other questions or want more details, feel free to ask! 😃
