Cabin Crew
Hi, thanks for your question.
British Airways cabin crew based at Heathrow live all over the country - some even live abroad. However, there are a few things to consider when deciding where to live:
- Home standby: you must be within two hours and thirty minutes of Heathrow. If you live outside that distance, you’d need to drive closer to the airport when on standby so you’re within reach.
- Tiredness after flights: after a trip, especially if you’ve been flying through the night, you’ll often feel very tired, and a long commute home can be difficult.
- Early starts and late finishes: these can be challenging if you rely on public transport. A 6am report, for example, might mean waking up at 2am to get ready and travel in, or staying in a hotel near the airport at your own expense.
- Rest and safety: being well rested before duty is really important — both for your own wellbeing and for safety reasons. Operating a long-haul flight when you’re already exhausted isn’t pleasant.
Lots of crew do commute and make it work, while others choose to move closer to Heathrow once they start flying. It really depends on what suits you best. Lincolnshire sounds absolutely fine, though you may need to be a little closer when on home standby.
You can find more about the role on the Cabin Crew FAQ page and register for job alerts here.
I hope that helps 😊
