Hey Neel! I was wondering about the Scope of projects at British Airways and what goes on in a day to day life at BA?

The scope of projects can vary. The first step is usually meeting with the stakeholder who has raised the project request to find out more about the scope and understand the requirements. This can be either done by a senior or principal data scientist.

We'd look at prioritising this project against the current backlog of work, factoring in any monetary value, mandatory or legal requirements and business urgency.

You may work with data engineers to ensure the required data is available in the warehouse or if they would need to first on-board a new source for you to proceed.

The requirements of the stakeholder would determine if a predictive analytics model, forecasting, machine learning model is appropriate. Or if any data visualisation such as a dashboard to display any trends or model outputs are required. Often there are projects which require data scientists to provide recommendations to a business problem post analysis of relevant data.
