Hi Shalom.

From personal experience, I had a background of air cadets and a flying scholarship which showed my commitment to flying. However, while this helped my initial application, it wasn't until my second time of applying that I was successful. I believe that my subsequent life experience taught me a lot. I did a degree and worked as a qualified neonatal and paediatric nurse which gave me many of the non-technical skills that are required by a successful pilot.

I think the more personal and relevant you can make your application the better. I also think taking the time to look at the non technical skills or competencies required by pilots and developing them in your working and personal life can help you be successful. Nursing taught me teamwork and leadership, workload management, communication and decision making and being part of sports teams also built on these skills and helped with spatial awareness.

I wish you all the best in following your dreams!

Kate
