Hello Bryan,
Thanks for your question - it’s a really important one and something many people wonder about.
If you become unwell onboard, you’ll of course be taken out of the service and looked after, with appropriate medical assistance arranged as needed.
If you become unwell down route, you’ll keep your hotel room and have time to rest and recover. Once you’re feeling well enough and fit to fly, you’ll be positioned home in a passenger seat rather than operating the flight.
British Airways also provides crew travel insurance, which includes medical cover while on duty (to cover any hospital cover, etc.) so you won’t need to arrange separate insurance for trips as part of your roster.
