Payroll Team Manager
In my role, the work-life balance is very flexible. Our aim, is to be in the office two to three days per week. This can be when it is convenient for us, as long as we realise that some days we are needed at Waterside for meetings etc. When working from home, we don't need to follow a rigid timetable. We are free to work around personal commitments, within reason, as long as the work gets done and our deadlines are met. Our work cycle naturally means we have peaks and troughs each month, which means we can fit in around those cycles.

Within my team, which is based at the Head Office, we understand that flexibility is important. With some of the team working internationally, or splitting their time between countries it has become the norm for us that remote working is feasible. This may differ depending on the requirements of your role. I normally go into the office twice a week on days of my choosing, but I try to marry these up with the days I have the most meetings. There is a mutual understanding that we can work flexible hours, some people like to come in earlier and finish earlier, or arrive later and leave later. British Airways understands that people have lives outside of work and commitments that need to be met so are accommodating to these sorts of requests. I have recently gone down to part-time hours, it was a really easy process and after a discussion with my line manager, I was able to raise the part time working request and this was actioned within a few days. This has really allowed me to support my young family and have a career. Many roles are listed as full time, but it is always good to address any questions you have with the hiring manager as there may be a possibility the role could be part time or job share if this is what you require.

In my department we also understand that having a good work-life balance is important. Following open discussions as a team, we've adopted a flexible working culture where colleagues are able to choose which days they would like to work remotely as opposed to coming into the office. We work dynamically and flexibly as a team and try to make work as fun as possible. For example we've launched our own Social Committee to plan fun things to do as a group, we have regular well-being and coaching sessions and all support one another.
