Additional information

I’m a mechanical engineering intern but I have my final(masters) year of university commencing Sep 2025.Can I study and take the speedbird course, take the course then finish my degree or visa versa? I’d like to know the sacrifices I’d have to make for this course or my degree. Kind Regards

Hi David.

If you were successful, it is likely courses will start in the first few months of 2026 and if you are successful and are offered a place before your course ends, you will not be able to defer to a future date. We cannot guarantee the course dates at this time. If you wish to finish your university course, you may decide to apply to a future scheme.

I had this situation when I was finishing my four year degree and I chose to finish the degree. I applied a few years later with some excellent work experience under my belt which I believe benefited me as a pilot and also made me a successful candidate. Others on my course chose not to finish their degree and were also successful. It is a very personal decision.

I hope this helps!

Best wishes

Hi David -

Adding onto Kate's response, I too had the option of applying before university or waiting until I finished my degree. Like Kate, I stayed at university and with the extracurricular options there, was able to fill my CV further. She's right, it really is a personal choice and whether it made a difference to my selection we will never know but I enjoyed my time in academia.
