From an Apprentice to becoming a Senior Communications Executive

Since joining British Airways as an apprentice, my career path has enabled me to work across several head-office and operational areas including at the airport and as part of our product and service, commercial and communications teams to get a sound understanding of our business, Each role allowed me to gain a wealth of experience and learn how we get our aircraft full of customers and cargo safely to their destinations, design our products, drive additional revenue, deliver superlative levels of customer service and continue to innovate and transform our business. I now work in our Corporate Affairs team as a Senior Communications Executive and help to deliver our external communications strategy and tell our exciting transformation story to the world, whilst promoting and protecting our brand across the media landscape and ensure we continue to deliver for our customers, our investors and our people.

I help to promote and protect the reputation of our brand

I work in our Corporate Communications team and look to promote and protect the reputation of BA across UK and international media. I also manage the external speaking engagement strategy for our senior leaders, lead on our financial results communications and support the Head of Corporate Communications and Government Affairs Manager to deliver our communications and engagement strategy. One day I could be preparing a Q&A document on our quarterly financial results, to briefing our Chairman and CEO ahead of a tier one media interview, capturing content for an upcoming project or facilitating a tour of our global operations centre for investors and members of the media. No two days are the same and that's what I love!

Participating in exciting projects and promoting the brand

I really enjoy the variety in what I do, which includes frequent exposure to many of our senior leaders and influential individuals across Government and Media. The ability to help create our external narrative and work closely with teams to ensure British Airways is reflected in a positive light brings a lot of pride - especially when I see projects I have been a part of featured across the media. This could be anything from working on the launch of a new route, to celebrating National Apprenticeship Week or the achievements of our amazing colleagues.

Seize every opportunity, be curious and ask questions

I'd advise potential candidates to do their research into our business and the role they are applying for - thinking about what experience and value they can bring and what they'd like to achieve in their first 12-months in the role. I'd also recommend seizing every opportunity that comes your way and always be curious... there is no such thing as a silly question and take the first couple of months to learn as much as you can.

Being recognised as a future leader

I'm extremely proud to have joined British Airways as an apprentice and since then I've had the opportunity to work across the airline and now be part of a high-performing team who promote and protect the brand and deliver our financial results communications. I'm most proud of having built up a strong network of contacts from across the business and having been recognised as a future travel leader by TTG Magazine. Its also humbling to be one of the Global Brand Ambassadors for British Airways and represent the brand at a number of activities around the world. One day you could be handing out leaflets at a railway station to helping to reunite a long lost family together or celebrating the launch of a brand new route.
